Adventure With Dementia

Younger onset dementia under 65’s

Adventure With Dementia

The first of its kind on the Sunshine Coast, the Adventure with Dementia group provides a supportive social framework, with coordinated activities to help improve the quality of life for those in our community living with Younger Onset Dementia.

The group is targeted at people diagnosed with Dementia who are under the age of 65, who are still fit and active and wanting to have some fun. Adventure with Dementia members are challenged within their capabilities and participate in a wide range of physical activities.

The group activities also provide the opportunity to create new friendships and enjoyment and is a great way to stay connected with the local community, as well as offering an opportunity for respite for the primary carer.

About The Group

We know that social engagement and physical activity is good for our brains, this can help us to stay connected, do things that make us feel happy, increase the blood flow to the brain which in turn decreases the “foggy” feeling. Staying socially connected also helps us sleep better and provides greater chances of clarity of thought.

Who can participate?

The group is specifically for people under the age of 65 who are wanting to have some fun.

Adventure with Dementia

How often will the group meet?

The group meets monthly in various locations around Maroochydore and will be facilitated by a Support Worker and Volunteer, both trained in dementia support and communication.

What type of activities will be on offer?

We will offer a different activity every month, and provide you the flexibility of choice to participate in what you want to do. Previous activities have included bush walking, lawn and ten pin bowling, fishing and kayaking. This is the first of its kind on the Sunshine Coast, offering an alternative to respite activities, while also offering some down time to spouse’s and carers.

I wish to convey our appreciation of your team of carers who care for us in our home in Caloundra. They gave us empathy, quality care and assistance constantly to both my husband and self. Paul – you are to be commended on your team; they are marvellous. Mr. & Mrs. W
To M and all the girls who helped look after Mum, I would like to say a very big thank you for the last 8 years, but most especially the last few weeks. It was very much appreciated. Ms. T
I appreciate all you do for me and the way you do it. It feels like friends visiting, not just workers. Ms. I
Many thanks for your service. We found the break to be very beneficial (although too short!). The attention of your staff, which went beyond the call of duty, is much appreciated and we will not hesitate to call on Bromilow again. Mr. W
Bromilow Home Support Services has provided my mother with a team of excellent, dedicated carers who understood the frailty of a fiercely independent old lady losing her grip on reality. Thank you. Mrs. S
To management and staff at Bromilow: more especially the ones that came personally and gave their care and attention. Words will never express my heartfelt thanks for all this. Each of you will forever have a special place in my heart. Mr. T

I want to compliment CG – she went the extra mile on the weekend for me. She helped me get ready for church and she fussed over me and made me feel special. Mr. T
I want to thank you for sending L to assist us - she is absolutely amazing. She is a lovely woman who is very efficient. She just comes into our home and gets on with her work. She is so delightful and we are very happy with her. Mr. & Mrs. R
I must commend Kerry to you. She was here today and did a wonderful job of looking after dad, making some delicious chicken curry, a tasty coffee cake, and some rissoles! She is very competent, especially when it comes to cooking! Mum’s very glad we have her. Mrs. S
All your ‘girls’ are lovely. But I do want to commend H’s congeniality and helpfulness. She has exhibited initiative and resourcefulness within her natural caring manner, consistently and with grace. Mrs. R
To all the wonderful Bromilow staff – we would like to thank you for all your input into Dad’s and our lives over the last few months. Thank you for your support and encouragement. And we are so grateful for the breaks we were able to take and the listening ears that you offered. Ms. D & Ms. B
