Whether you or someone you care for is living with dementia, it is important to know that you are not alone.  Our caring registered nurses and in-home care support services teams are on hand to assist when you or your loved ones need it most.

Whilst supporting a loved one with dementia is not a one solution fits all approach. We have asked our team to give some helpful tips for families who wish to support their loved ones who currently have Dementia.

Helping someone with dementia

  • Communicate clearly and patiently
  • Be mindful of the symptoms
  • Early intervention is key
  • Get out into nature
  • Keep active and engaged
  •  Ensure household safety
  • Seek in-home support
  • Good nutrition is important
  • Medical and nursing support
  • Maintain good hygiene
  • Socialise with friends and family
  • Get plenty of sleep

Caring for your dementia needs

Dementia can affect a person’s ability to perform everyday tasks. One of the most common causes of dementia is Alzheimer’s where memory loss, language and critical thinking skills can be most affected.  Our caring team of professionals can help you navigate your way through this tough time with the support of our specialised nurses who are experts in caring for people living with dementia. We provide the right care that will allow you to stay where you feel most comfortable – in your own home.

What other support is available?

If you want to learn about dementia in your own time, online learning (including online seminar sessions and courses) can provide a flexible option.

Dementia Australia runs webinars for both carers and people living with dementia.

Webinars cover topics like:

  • understanding dementia
  • dealing with behavioural changes
  • learning effective communication methods
  • the process around moving into an aged care home.

Let our Bromilow Dementia Champions support you

First, we get to know you. Our tailored approach means that you or your loved one get the dementia care you need and want, because we believe that the best way to help you is to listen.

Bromilow’s Dementia Champions are a small team of highly trained carers that have exceptional knowledge and skills in the care of people with dementia, all holding formal Dementia qualifications. They advocate for people with dementia and are a source of information and support for all those involved in dementia care.

Our Dementia Champions collaborate with our nurses and coordinators to develop dementia specific support for our clients and a person-centred culture in dementia care delivery. Bromilow staff receive on-going training in dementia care through workshops, webinars, conferences, and courses, ensuring that they deliver the highest quality dementia care to our clients and are up to date with the current best practices.
